  • Vas Prabhu, Deputy Director for Interpretation and Education at the Peabody Essex Museum, informs us that the Peabody Essex was named one of the TEN BEST FAMILY ART MUSEUMS FOR KIDS by Child Magazine. One hundred museums were selected from the museums represented by the Association of Art Museum Directors and invited to apply. Peabody Essex staff took part in an application process involving written questions, visits to the Museum and interviews with museum senior staff. Congratulations!
  • Congratulations to MER Board Member Jill Sanderson, who recently started a new job as Curator of Education at Lincoln Cottage, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, that is not yet open to the public. She writes: "The "new" museum will open in September 2007. The site includes four acres of land and both the cottage and a building that is being transformed into a Visitor Education Center. This place has a great story to tell as the only site associated with the Lincoln Presidency aside from the White House. The site was used by Lincoln as his Camp David during his Presidency. He spent about half the year living at the cottage with his family and commuting to the White House for work. During his Presidency, Lincoln faced many difficult choices relating to the unfolding of the Civil War and it was here at Lincoln Cottage that he drafted the Emancipation Proclamation. As Curator of Education, I will be working on interpretation, exhibition development, and community outreach"
