Annual Member's Reception at AAM
Join fellow museum educators from across the country at our annual MER Member's Reception. You'll meet MER board members and hear about new initiatives MER is launching this year.
The MER Annual Member's Reception will take place on Monday, April 28 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm at the Denver Firefighter's Museum, 1326 Tremont Place, Denver.
Join a Growing Network of Museum Educators
MER is spear-heading an effort to connect museum educators across the country using LinkedIn, a popular social networking site for professionals. See where your colleagues work and what they're doing. Find collaborative partners and old friends. Become part of the fastest growing network of museum educators. Join now!
Museum Education Roundtable (MER), is asking museum educators to come forward and let us know
if they are a part of a group of museum educators (formal or informal)
that meets to discuss museum practice, education practice, and/or
theoretical concerns facing museum educators. If you are a part of a
museum education roundtable/group or know of one, could you share with
us the region/city/town the group meets meet in; approximately how many
folks are in the group; and the respondent's contact information (Name,
email, and museum/cultural institution/nature center/park affiliation)?
MER's goals for this project are three fold:
- To develop and advocate a network for the museum education groups to
tie into ongoing lines of communication
- To help promote MER's mission...to promote the role of museums and other cultural institutions as
primary resources for life long learning
- To find out, for example, the most current topics in discussion, "on the tables," so MER can be in
touch with current interests and concerns of museum educators at the
grass roots level
MER's objective for this call is to connect with like-groups who
are having round table discussions. We realize the list-serv for
Museum-L, Museum Education Monitor and on-line services, the museum-ed
blog, and ed-talk, and so on, offer useful virtual connections. However,
the model for MER is the physical gathering of local museum educators
and this unique model is what we hope to make direct contact with.
Please respond to Julia Rose at the MER Office.
Thank you.
See you in Denver! The MER annual reception will be at the AAM 2008 Annual Meeting in Denver Colorado. In preparation for the reception MER is putting together a fantastic collection of museum store quality merchandise for a prize to be raffled off that evening. The funds raised will be used to start a MER Endowment Fund. Please consider donating a lovely item for this wonderful fund raising effort:

The Journal Gets a New Editor-in-Chief
The Journal of Museum Education is pleased to announce the
appointment of Liz Maurer as editor-in-chief. Liz comes to JME with
fifteen years in the museum field as an educator and exhibit
coordinator at Colonial Williamsburg and George Washington's Mount
Vernon. She currently is an Associate with Design and Production
Incorporated, an exhibit fabrication company, where she coordinates
proposals, performs new business development, and serves as a project
director for design/build exhibits. Liz holds a master's degree in
Museum Education from The George Washington University.
In future JME issues, Liz is looking forward to examining the
changing culture of the museum field. As museums grapple with
differing audiences, integrating new technologies, and increased
difficulties with funding, educators will be challenged to develop new
expertise and redefine their roles. If you have an issue proposal that
addresses any of these issues, please forward it to Liz at
elm.1028@gmail.com.
